2013 CCSBE ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The 2013 CCSBE/CCPME Conference was hosted last week in Victoria, BC, Canada at the Royal Roads University. Every year, CCSBE/CCPME works to invite scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers or influencers from around the world to discuss research and best practices in small business and entrepreneurship.

Keynote speakers included Dr. Jeffrey R. Alves, Dr. Arvind Ashta, Michael Callahan, Taylor Conroy, Alex Glassey, Lisa Helps, Prof. Pasi Malinen, James Milligan, Christian Holljes, Mandy Farmer, AAron Smith and Chris Flett.

The conference kicked off on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2013, with the PNWER-BIC Contest Winners Reception and Entrepreneurial Boot Camp at the Hotel Grand Pacific. Thursday morning followed with an Opening Keynote from CCSBE President Gerry Kerr, Conference Chair Geoff Archer, and ICSB President Jeff Alves. The parallel track sessions started after the keynote with approximately forty (40) research presentations.

One highlight event of the conference was the Online Learning Excellence (OLE) Educator-to-Educator training session. This session was started in San Francisco, CA USA in January as part of the annual USASBE Conference and was held at CCSBE 2013 as a follow-up.

The STAR Online Learning Excellence Program is a comprehensive training and mentoring program for entrepreneurship educators. Participants learn firsthand, educator-to-educator, how to identify and tailor the best possible learning tools and exercises for specific online learning objectives. Award-winning trainers help make online experiential learning more than just a collection of activities, leading a revolution in entrepreneurial learning. The STAR Online Learning Excellence Program is a comprehensive, memorable, and high impact learning entrepreneurship course.

A total of 26 participants attended OLE at CCSBE. Training was led by award winning teaching faculty Drs. Ayman El Tarabishy, Geoff Archer and Pasi Malinen.
