Hello Everyone,

Please join me in congratulating all the Entrepreneurship majors graduating this June! It's hard to believe that as you read this, Spring Quarter exams are in full swing, final grades are in process, graduation is just around the corner, and another academic year has come and gone.

As you look over this issue of E-News & Views, we once again see the words of Demosthenes come to life, "Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises." Congratulations once again to all of our honored recipients recognized at the 12th Annual Entrepreneurship Recognition Banquet in May. A special congratulations to our co-recipients of the Entrepreneurship Student of the Year, Charles Rinehart and Jordan Brewer. Jordan is also the College of Business Student of the Year, marking two years in a row an Entrepreneurship major has been so honored. Also, you will see stories on the Entrepreneurship Club's Venture Forum and our small business outreach partnership with First Financial Bank, as well as the research honors of one of our doctoral students, Diana Hechavarria.

UC Partnerswith First Financial
First Financial Bank recently partnered with the University of Cincinnati's Center for Entrepreneurship Education & Research to host a Small Business Roundtable discussion. The event was held April 28 at First Financial's Cornerstone office and was led by UC's Dr. Chuck Matthews, who provided current research and trendsto leadthe discussion.

Six local small business owners joined First Financial small business experts, Brendan Burns, Director of Small Business Lending; Shawn Byerly,Small Business Regional Managerand Ron Helton, Regional Banking Center Manager, to discuss current challenges, best practices and successes. Topics included the recession, financial resources and plans for growth in 2010. The pilot event was a success, and future roundtable events will be planned in Cincinnati and other markets.

Diana HechCollege of Business Student Receives
a Student Research Fellowship
Congratulations to Diana Hechavarria on receiving a University Research Council Graduate Student Research Fellowship. Nearly 200 applications were submitted for the fellowship program, and 65 students from eight UC colleges received the award, which includes two months of stipend support for research during the 2010 summer months.
Way to go, Diana!

University of CincinnatiOutstanding Undergraduate Honor is Given to College of Business StudentJordan Brewer
Jordan Brewer, an Entrepreneurship/Finance student, won the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award given by the University.Jordan is a Finance/ Entrepreneurship student in the Carl H. Lindner Honors-PLUS Program.Jeri Ricketts, Director of the program, stated, "I am extremely proud of Jordan and the work he has done with our program and the University of Cincinnati. He is very talented in many areas, recognized by his peers, active in his fraternities, his service and has done everything we could ask from a student. Jordan is very deserving of this award."
In addition to recognizing Jordan as the Outstanding Entrepreneurship and CoB Undergraduate Student of the Year,he will also deliverthe university oration for the Saturday morning All-University Commencement Ceremony.Congratulations Jordan!

The Entrepreneurship Club and the Finance Club presented The 2010 Venture Capital Forum "Growing Your Business in Cincinnati" on Wednesday, May 19,in Carl H. Lindner Hall. Dr. Matthewsserved as Moderator, with Panelists Bob Coy, President, Cincy Tech; Dr. Tom Dalziel, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship; Ms. Elizabeth Edwards, Founder, Metro Innovation and Dr. Jason Heikenfeld, Associate Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, UC, and Director of Novel Devices Laboratory.These local experts from business and education shared their insights, thoughts and experiences on sources of funding and what it takes to successfully grow your business. If you missed this one, watch for future forums sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Club.

Schneider Keeps Rising in the Swimming WorldJosh Schneider
Again, this has nothing to dowith Entrepreneurship, but we areexcited for College of Business seniorJosh Schneider who wonthe50-meter freestyle event Saturday at the Charlotte Ultraswim.Earlier this year he won the NCAA championship in the same race, swam the second-fastest time by an American this year in the event and beat out the current American record-holder, Olympic Gold Medalist Cullen Jones. Schneider's time of 22.38 isNo. 17 in the world.

During his time at UC, Schneider was a five-time All-America selection, seven-time BIG EAST Conference Champion and two-time BIG EAST Swimmer of the Year. He set 22 school-record times,five are still undefeated,and was undefeated in the 50 freestyle during 2009-10. Schneider is a seniorin marketing at the UC College of Business and training for the 2012 Olympics
in London.
