ICSB Bulletin - November 2008

 

Welcome to the November 2008 edition of the ICSB Bulletin. The ICSB Bulletin has been established to capture the major ICSB news stories of the past month.

November news topics represent a diverse mix of global stories from Europe to Taiwan. Membership announcements for the month included the Call for 2009-10 ICSB Board Nominations as well as the Call for ICSB2009 World Conference Abstract Submissions. Additionally, the International Office initiated a new social media presence in November while also taking a look at cultural diversity at Proctor & Gamble courtesy of Mr. Jorge Mesquita. Upcoming events include the USASBE 2009 Conference in Anaheim, California USA. Innovation and leadership in social media earned Wiggly Wigglers, a rural England-based natural gardening mail-order company, the 2008 Global Dell Small Business Excellence Award. The announcement and $50,000 technology award were made today at a press conference in New York.

ECSB and ICSB announces the activation of a new wiki dedicated to entrepreneurship and small business scholars and practictioners. This is a first step to exploit the potential of internet enabled collaboration to foster interaction among ECSB members and build the world's richest on-line community on entrepreneurship and small business studies.
 
ICSB Introduces New Social Media Presence

ECSB celebrates its 20th Anniversary

The International Council for Small Business (ICSB) would like to congratulate our Europe-based affiliate, the European Council for Small Business (ECSB) on their 20th anniversary of affiliation. The network of ECSB covers nearly all of Europe geographically, resulting in membership from approximately 500 experts in over 30 countries. ECSB is also the co-organizer of the annual RENT Conference, which is Europe's premier research conference in the field of entrepreneurship.

ICSB-Taiwan - Beyond Silicon Valley

In 2004, SMEA began the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plans with a focus on three areas; Business Start-up Counseling Services Program, SME Innovation and Start-up Business Colleges, and New Business Actualization. The three stages of guidance are based on the lifecycle of any newly established enterprise, that is, the seeding stage, getting the new business established and the continuous growth period, are recognized as a way to provide better and complete services for start-up businesses.

Jorge Mesquita: Cultural Diversity at P&G

On October 16, 2008 the George Washington University School of Business hosted Proctor and Gamble President of Global Fabric Care, Mr. Jorge Mesquita. Mr. Mesquita gave a presentation to a group of graduate and undergraduate students from the University on the topic of culture and its impact within the business world, with a special insight from a multi-national organization such as Proctor and Gamble.

The Entrepreneurship Educator: November 2008

Entrepreneurship programs are finding some creative ways to bring experiential education to the classroom covering the full range of the entrepreneurial process from the pre-venture stage of opportunity recognition through the actual operation of a venture. In this edition we look at a classroom exercise, campus-based businesses, and an integrative program known as E-Scholars as examples of programs that provide effective experiential learning pedagogies.
